Like a vaccine or a shot of heroin?
When you think about it, religion, essentially, is just that. It vaccinates us against the evils of the world, promising salvation from those dirty, germy works of the devil. And, like heroin, it fills your veins with liquid joy, bubbling up to the surface in the form of your savior, rescuing you from all your troubles.
